Why These Ingredients?
Compost-The biggest building block of sustainable gardening. It is the managed, aerobic decomposition of organic materials into a nutrient-rich, dark, soil-like conditioner. It enhances soil health, increases moisture retention, reduces landfill waste, and lowers the need for synthetic chemical fertilizers in your garden.
PittMoss-An eco-friendly, peat-free potting mix and soil amendment made from recycled organic cellulose fibers (paper/cardboard) designed for superior moisture retention, increased air space, and enhanced nutrient uptake. It offers a sustainable alternative to traditional peat moss, reducing greenhouse gas emissions while promoting robust root development.
Natural Lake Humas- A highly concentrated form of decomposed aquatic matter, acting as a potent soil conditioner that enhances nutrient uptake, water retention, and soil structure. Fish fertilizer improves soil health; it also increases soil fertility by providing the primary nutrients necessary for plants to thrive. Plants that receive a balance of primary and secondary nutrients experience strong and steady plant growth leading to vigorous plants that can better withstand disease and pest issues. Fish fertilizers offer a source of burn-free nitrogen, along with other primary nutrients of phosphorus and potassium. This amendment is EPA tested.
Note: We use a newer product called “PittMoss” in this blend as harvesting traditional Peat Moss is devastating to the environment. Extracting peat destroys fragile, slow-regenerating wetland ecosystems (peat bogs) that take thousands of years to form. Harvesting peat releases massive amounts of stored carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, contributing to climate change. By using the new alternative, we are one step closer to sustainability. Re-using a common material such as paper and cardboard keeps it out of the landfill and your plants happy.
